While I teach, I learn

 
January 2019 was a great start to another meaningful and creative year, full of plans and to-do lists. I feel lucky to enjoy one day a week with younger people sharing bojagi. They amaze me and motivating me since I started meeting them in 2012. I get positive energy from them and learn more than I teach. 

Lunar New Year comes early this year and it is Feb. 5th. Thinking of another bowl of rice cake soup makes me happy, even though I will get another year older.
On Sunday, Feb. 10th, I will celebrate Lunar New Year at the Oakland Museum making Saekdong Bok jumeoni with museum visitors. Please come and enjoy the festivities and make your own Bok jumeoni!

Basic Bojagi Class during March and April is full now. I will plan more bojagi classes at my home studio in May and June. These will be on Saturday mornings. Stay tuned for a future announcement.

Reading recommendation: I've been asked for recommendations for people who want to know more about Korea and its culture. Here's an updated book by Daniel Tudor, a Seoul-based author and journalist. I have an older edition and curious about what the updates included.

Time to wrap up...


...this year and welcome another one! I had a very busy but fulfilling year. I had many wonderful chances to expand my horizon and opportunities to step out of my comfort zone. These encouraged me to try new things and led me to grow a little more. I appreciate your love and support. In 2019, I hope you all have a creative and joyous year!

I am going to start a small group 'Basic Bojagi' class at my home studio in Pleasanton. 5 class session will teach you basic bojagi making and techniques. Time and dates are Sundays, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 4/7 and 4/14 during 10 am -12pm. Class fee is $200 for the whole session. I will take first 5 people who sign up.

An invitation for Korea Textile Tour 2019. 
14-24th, October 2019
I invite you all to sign up first for the 2019 Korea Textile Tour! Thank you for showing your interest in next year's tour. Sign-ups will be open to the public on December 15th. 

 
 


Small group of 10 women with Youngmin Lee will explore to:
● Visit museums and galleries, palaces, temples, artist studios and workshops and fabulous markets (shopping for textiles and other treasures you won’t want to go home without).
● Walk through traditional neighborhoods, along a renewed stream in the middle of the city, past historical gates set in the four directions, and across green spaces in an exciting yet safe city where ancient and modern live side by side.
● Eat Korean food, which includes many healthy, vegetarian, and vegan options, and you will also have access to a variety of cuisines from other countries.
● Trip cost is USD $3,800
● A $500 deposit via PayPal will reserve your spot.
