My Spring cleaning took me a month and I finally feeling a bit better.
Some online events and a in-person class was filling my March fast enough.
My husband is doing well and we try to walk regularly to regain his strength.
I'll kick off April in Mexico City, teaching five workshops at my dear friend Lili's QuilteArte.
삼월은 봄청소를 하면서 다 지나간 것 같습니다.
워크샵과 강연은 온라인도 오프라인도 다 신나는 일립니다.
제 남편도 잘 지냅니다. 매일 매일 산책을 하면서 체력을 회복하고 있지요.

Gardenia seedpod dyeing
The other day, I stumbled upon this book from my bookshelf. Three decades ago, I was studying Japanese to read fashion magazines. This book, which is actually a basic Japanese textbook number 1, caught my eye. I had cut a photo from a magazine and used it as the cover. The 80s style reminded me of my youth, and I was inspired to create a yellow color using 치자 열매, gardenia seed pods. After scouring, mordanting, dyeing, and washing, I managed to achieve a beautiful yellow ramie fabric. Now, I’m faced with the exciting task of deciding how to incorporate this fabric into my future projects.

치자 염색
어느날 책장에서 오래된 책한권이 보였습니다. 삼십여년전 대학생 이었을때 일본 패션 잡지를 읽고 싶어서 열심히 일본어 공부를 한 적이 있습니다. 그때 책표지를 잡지에서 오려낸 마음에드는 사진으로 장식 했었지요. 사진에 보이는 색을 만들어보고 싶어서 치자 염색을 했습니다. 흰 모시 다섯마가 80년대의 추억을 불러 일으키는 진한 노랑이 되었습니다.

Mingei in April and indigo
Mingei International Museum's Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo exhibition has ended. Thank you to many of you who visited and sent me photos of my work, Dawn. I was honored to be invited to the museum's monthly program, 'Coffee and Conversations,' on April 18th. If you are near the San Diego area, please come and say hi! I will also have my book signing time after my talk.
샌디에고 Mingei International Museum에서 시작된 Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo 전시에 직접 가보시고 제 작품 사진을 찍어 보내주신 많은 분들께 감사드립니다. 이 전시와 연계해서 4월 18일에 'Coffee and Conversations',에 초대받아서 제 작업에 얘기를 나눌 시간을 갖습니다. 제 책에 사인해드리는 시간도 있으니 가까이 계신분들은 오셔서 함께 하시면 좋겠습니다.

On my birthday in January, I gave myself a present. I signed up for an "Seeds to dye" online course that teaches 10 weeks of indigo cultivating and sukumo making. Every Monday during March, I open my email box with excitement for watching videos and reading a PDF files. To make a small batch of sukumo, I need at least 3 kg of dried leaves.
I saved 250 gm of indigo leaves from last year's indigo plants and have an ambitious plan to get more this year. I ordered indigo seeds, seeding trays, and a small greenhouse. I sprinkled seeds onto trays last week and I saw tiny green shoots coming out of the trays. I hope to see more sprouts when I come back home next week.
올해 생일에는 스스로에게 선물을 했습니다. 온라인으로 배우는 "씨뿌리기부터 물들이기까지" 수업입니다. 10주동안 쪽씨를 뿌리는 것 부터 수확해서 스쿠모 (일본식 발효 염료 만들기)를 만들기까지 과정입니다. 3 kg의 마른잎이 있어야 하는데 작녕에 거둔 250gm밖에 없어서 해서 올 한해는 좀 잘 키워봐야겠어요. 쪽씨도 준비하고 씨를 심을 모종 쟁반도 구입하고 작은 비닐하우스까지 모든 준비 완료입니다. 지난주 뿌린 씨가 싹이나오는 걸 보니 마음이 두근거립니다.

K-Drama and Jeju
I've been watching a new Netflix K-Drama, When life gives you tangerines. From the 60s to present, a story about a family in Jeju island. I rally enjoyed watching this show and want to share some good reads about Jeju. My dear friend Brenda Paik Sunoo's books,
Stone House on Jeju Island and Moon Tides. And Lisa See's Island of Sea Women. I won't spoil you by giving you summary of these wonderful books. I highly recommend all three books!

Joy of meeting people and sharing my passion are so thrilling and I love packing my big bag with bojagi materials. I am starting again to travel near and far from home. Hope to see you in one pf these places I will travel. I also love meeting virtually and SDA workshop doesn't require traveling.
워크샵 여행은 준비해여 할 일들이 정말 많지만 저를 들뜨게하고 행복하게 합니다. 멕시코 시티로 시애틀로 루든으로 시라큐스로... 늘 꿈꾸고 상상만 하던 곳들에서 가르치러 가야지요!
