Happy August! As always, bojagi gifted me another wonderful experience in July. I traveled to upstate New York for the first time and spent a week surrounded by creative people at the Quilting by the Lake conference, organized by Schweinfurth Art Center. Founded in 1981, The Quilting by the Lake offers not only quilting but also a wide range of fiber art subjects.
The classroom where I taught had a beautiful view of Seneca lake in the Finger Lakes region. The lakeside campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges was a perfect setting to host 110+ of students, 5 instructors, and staff. I stayed in a condo-style dorm with two other instructors and enjoyed three meals a day at the cafeteria. The campus was large enough to help me meet my daily walking and exercise goals.
Teaching? Oh, I absolutely loved teaching 5-day workshop! Teaching, sharing, learning, processing, and creating unique work- it was so full of creative energy deeply inspiring.
Now that I’m back home, I’m happy to see my indigo and safflower plants are thriving-thanks to my husband, who set an alarm “Water your wife’s dye garden.” One early morning, I dyed some yellow-green silk that I hadn’t been fond of (but had two bolts in my shelf) into beautiful shades of apple green. Now I’m excited to spend more time with kkekki seams using my new sewing machine. Yes, I got a new machine that makes wonderful straight stitches. This machine creates such beautiful kkekki seams so I am a happy camper!
