Youngmin's February Newsletter  Happy Lunar New Year!
View this email in your browser
Happy Lunar New year! 2022 is the year of the black tiger.
The year of the tiger: 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, and 2022.
It is a 12 years cycle.
This applies to your birth year in the lunar calendar. I was born in January but my lunar birthday is December so my zodiac animal is the monkey instead of the rooster. (Hmm, some of you can guess how old I am...)
Here's a converter if you are curious about your zodiac animal. Type in your birthday, month, and year. The converter will turn it into the Lunar calendar birthday. And here's the chart where you can find your zodiac animal.

February 3rd is 입춘 (Ip Chun, the beginning of the Spring) of 2022.
My dad (he was born in a year of the tiger) practices his calligraphy every morning and this is the writing he sent me a few years ago. Every year, Koreans write this message and put it on the front door to welcome Spring and hope for blessings and happiness.

I wish you a creative and healthy new year!

A Gathering of Stitches, Slow Stitching Retreat
August 8-14, 2022
When I find something interesting about making, many of them happen or are located in Maine. Samantha reached out in October 2019 when I was leading my Korea textile tour. My answer was yes! without hesitation. Unfortunately, we had to wait two years but finally, I am going to Maine and meet some like-minded people! If you want to spend a week with a slow stitching process, let's meet there in August 2022!

Korea textile Tour 2022
From February 4, 2022, the Korean government's mandatory quarantine requirement will be shortened from 10 days to 7 days. When the Korean government's mandatory quarantine requirement is completely eased, I will resume the Korea textile tour.
Tentative dates in October 2022 are below.

Tour 1- 10/3-10/13, 2022
Tour 2- 10/17-10/27, 2022

국화 매듭, Chrysanthemum knot
Chrysanthemum is one of the symbols of The Four Gentlemen or The Four Noble Ones (plum, orchid, chrysanthemum, and bamboo). Chrysanthemum blooms in the cold air and it keeps the shape and color even in the harsh weather. It is a symbol of withstanding all adversities. I found this big chrysanthemum knot I made years ago. Here's my YouTube video that shows how to make this knot. Link here.
