Summer is here! Hope you are enjoying your creative days.

Whenever I feel creative block, I pay my visit to Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Every time I re-read (technically re-listen because I love audio books), it reignites my creative energy. During June, I was having a difficult time to focus on my creative routine. This book reminds me that it’s okay to pause- that inspiration will visit me again. If you are curious, I highly recommend reading (or listening) it!

This year’s indigo growing has been slow. After my first batch of seedlings failed, I scattered seeds directly into the soil-more out of hope than expectation. As the weather warmed, I began to see small changes each morning. My indigo seedings aren’t giving up!

This spring, I took an online “Seed to Dye” class from Awonoyoh. I still have a long way to go before making my own sukumo (Japanese- style fermented indigo dye) but I really enjoyed learning how to grow indigo from seeds, harvest the plants, ferment to get sukumo, and make indigo liquid to dye fabric.

My INDIGO library is growing, and I’d love to share the list with you for your summer reading.

My beloved sidekick Ellie left us in June after 11 years of bringing joy and happiness to our family. I miss having her by my side when I dye fabrics in the backyard, but I’m grateful she didn’t have to suffer long from hemangiosarcoma.
