Trip to Korea
I just came back from my trip to Japan and Korea. The weather was perfect for travelers and everywhere was covered with rich green leaves and trees. In Kyoto, I visited Gallery Kei and had a chance to see their annual special exhibition. It was an Exhibition of Asa (Mosi and Sambe) and I felt so lucky to get to see these old fabrics and clothes from the Edo period (1603-1867)!
In Korea, I went to Andong and visited the Andongpo center. Aodongpo is a type of fine hemp fabric that is only produced in the Andong region. I also was able to visit a store that carries natural dyed fabrics. In Seoul, I saw indigo dye work by the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Dying and a hanbok exhibition by the Master Artisan of Needlework.
The 'Korean Voices of Fiber' exhibition, showing 25 fiber artists' works, is opening on Saturday, June 10th 4-6:30 pm at the Sacramento Fine Art Center. Please come and celebrate with me!
