When I was visiting Mexico City in April, Lupita asked me to make a How-to video of 나비, Nabi, Butterfly.
Butterflies are a symbol of happiness, prosperity, and fertility in Korean culture.
It took me a while, but I finally made it. I'd love to share with Lupita and you!

지난 사월 멕시코 시티에서 만난 루피타가 나비만들기 비디오를 만들어달라고 부탁을 했어요. 그래서 여기 만들어 올렸습니다. 한국 전통문화에서 나비는 행복과 부귀와 다산의 상징입니다.
Spending a week in the Pacific Northwest with 16 creative people was a great way to start May. Visiting 'Botanical Colors' and meeting Kathy Hattori also made me excited, too. During this 4-day long workshop, we discussed and practiced many details about bojagi.
As always, after I teach workshops, I have a strong desire to have my own creative time.
After I came back home, I scoured and mordanted more fabrics to dye and use for my future work. I made a new indigo vat so I can play with the natural dyeing process +indigo over dyeing. This year's indigo cultivating is not going great and I was able to get only a few indigo plants from two packets of indigo seeds....
오월의 시작은 시애틀에서 워크샵을 하면서 열었지요. 자연염색 전문가 Kathy Hattori의 Botanical Colors 에서 나흘간 좋은 시간을 보냈습니다. 늘 그렇듯이 집에 돌아와서는 저만의 창작 시간이 절실히 필요한걸 느낍니다. 작업에 쓸 재료를 염색할 준비를 하고 쪽이 얼마나 자랐나 마당을 들여다 보았습니다. 올해 쪽 농사는 망한것 같습니다...
 
During this year's SDA's online workshops, I taught 'Introductory Bojagi' and took a few classes. Erin Fletcher's 'Cross Structure Binding' was one of them, and I really enjoyed learning new skills.
SDA 온라인 워크샵은 올해에도 좋은 주제로 다양한 수업을 제공했습니다. 올해 저는 '보자기 입문' 클래스를 가르쳤고 다양한 주제의 수업을 들었습니다. 제본수업에서 배워 새로만든 책들입니다.
 
I wrapped up May with a short trip to SoCal to visit my daughter. She was taking care of my little dog, Ellie for over 6 months. Now Ellie is back home so she can be my backyard dyeing project sidekick!
오월의 마지막 주말은 남가주에 사는 딸네집에 다녀왔지요. 딸과 사위가 사는 모습도 보고 6개월 넘게 맡겨둔 엘리를 데리고 돌아왔습니다. 엘리가 돌아왔으니 이제 뒷마당 염색 조수 역할을 톡톡히 할 겁니다.
