Even though we had an extra day in February this year, it still went by too quickly.
After teaching a few online classes, I dropped off my work at the Sausalito Center for the Arts to participate in the Bay Area Arts and Crafts exhibit. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the opening reception due to scheduling conflicts with another event, QuiltCon2024. However, I was able to visit the exhibit and enjoy the Bay Area artists' wonderful artwork. The exhibit is still going until March 15th, so if you are in the Bay Area, this is a great chance to see wonderful art and craft work made by local Bay Area artists.
I had a wonderful time at QuiltCon2024 in Raleigh, NC. This was my second year attending and teaching classes, and I enjoyed it even more than last year. I had a good time last year but was too nervous, since it was my first QuiltCon experience. This time, I made plans to meet people I wanted to meet. Teaching classes, meeting old and new friends, and seeing amazing quilts in the exhibit kept me busy during my stay. I left the QuiltCon with inspiration!
My next destination was Virginia. My friend, Kathleen (μΌμ΄) picked me up from the airport and hosted me while I was there. This was our first time meeting in person, but I felt that we'd known each other for a long time. Bojagi led us to each other and connected us, leading to this long-distance friendship.
She took me to George Washington's Mount Vernon where I learned a lot about American history and saw GW's dentures.
Then I went to Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House to attend the opening reception of the 61st Woodlawn Needle Show. If you are around the Alexandria, VA area, please check this out! I was amazed by the 500 participants' beautiful needlework and it was an eye-opening experience.
I saw that one of the two works I submitted got an honorable mention. It was such a pleasant surprise!
The next day was a big day of meeting people and teaching my workshop, Lotus Leaf Sangbo. Many people came to have an experience of hand sewing. My sincere gratitude to those who came to my workshop. Some of you drove several hours from different states. Thank you! The Pope-Leighey House Tour after the workshop was a special treat to see and learn about Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian houses.
Now I am home and taking a short break before I pack and travel down to SoCal. I will be in LA and San Diego in mid-March. You can check a few links to the quilt guilds below.
My book is coming out! One of my big projects from last year is finally on its way to you all. The book will be available on September 17th, 2024 and if you want a signed copy, you can pre-order from my website. PRE-ORDER HERE
