I am home! 다녀왔습니다!

When I left Seoul for California two weeks ago, it was still chilly and wintery. But when I arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area, it felt like I had stepped into a whole new season! After 5 days of unpacking and packing my bag again, I flew to Phoenix, Arizona, to attend QuiltCon2025. The temperature and time change made my body super tired, but I tried my best to enjoy everything. I taught 3 workshops, met so many amazing people, and saw tons of beautiful quilts.
I finally came back home, and after attending QuiltCon2025 in Phoenix last week, I’m taking a moment to clean my studio. I hope this act of cleaning will help me get back into my own creative flow.
이월 중순에 추운 겨울날씨의 서울을 뒤로하고 샌프란시스코 베이지역으로 돌아왔습니다. 공항에서 내려 집으로가는 길에 계절이 바뀐듯 다른 계절을 느꼈지요. 그후 닷새동안 짐을 풀고 새 짐을싸서 아리조나주 피닉스에서 열린 퀼트콘으로 날아갔습니다. 시차도 날씨도 두 번이나 바뀌어서 몹시 피곤했지만 워크샵과 많은 사람들과의 만남 그리고 뛰어난 퀼트들을 보면서 모든걸 즐기려고 애썼답니다. 이제 집으로 돌아와 지난 넉달간 밀린 청소를 하며, 특히 먼지쌓인 작업실을 치우면서 천천히 새로운 기운을 느끼려고 하고 있습니다.

QuiltCon Recap
QuiltCon was a blast! Every year, I feel like bojagi gets more and more attention from quilters. I hope my workshops inspire people to learn and create more quilts and textile works inspired by bojagi. Next year, I’m going to try my best to enter my bojagi into QuiltCon. I’m also hoping to catch a glimpse of Korean quilters at QuiltCon next year! This was my third year of attending, so I was thrilled to see friends and like-minded people at QuiltCon.
My friend Laura wrote an awesome article about exploring her heritage and bojagi. I’m so proud of her!
Diane came to visit my class with her finished Saeksilnubi book from last year's workshop! Diane, you made my day!
During QuiltCon, a lot of people came up to me and asked about my husband’s condition. Thanks! He’s getting better every day.

퀼트콘 후기
퀼트콘은 마치 축제 같습니다! 각지에서 온 퀼터들이 선정된 훌륭한 작품도 선뵈고 친목도 도모하고 지칠때까지 쇼핑도 하고 금방 친구도 사귑니다! 삼년째 참가하는 이 행사에서 보자기에 관한 관심이 조금씩 자라나는 것도 느낍니다. 제가 가르치는 워크샵이 양분이 되어 보자기에 영향받은 퀼트 작품을 볼 수 있으면 좋겠다는 마음입니다. 한국의 퀼터분들도 이 신나는 곳에 함께하면 얼마나 좋을까 생각해보았답니다.
작년에 색실누비 수업을 들은 다이앤은 프로젝트를 완성해서 잘 쓰고 있다며 보여주러 왔어요, 고맙고 기뻤지요.
퀼트콘에서 매년 만나는 제친구 로라는 보자기를 통해 자신의 뿌리를 찾아가는 글을 퀼트콘 잡지에 기고했지요.
자랑스러워요, 로라!
퀼트콘 기간동안 그리웠던 친구들도 만났고, 새로운 인연도 맺고, 지나가다가 다가와서 안아주면서 제 남편의 안부를 물어주는 경우도 많았습니다.

Blue Gold Exhibition
Mingei International Museum
Mingei International Museum's Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo exhibition is still on until March 16, 2025. My work, Dawn, is a part of this exhibit. I was honored to be invited to the museum's monthly program, 'Coffee and Conversations,' on April 18th. If you are near the San Diego area, please come and say hi! I will also have my book signing time after my talk.
작년 여름 샌디에고 Mingei International Museum에서 시작된 Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo 전시에 제 작품이 전시되어 정말 영광스러웠습니다. 이 전시는 3월 16일까지 보실 수 있습니다. 그리고 이 전시와 연계해서 4월 18일에 'Coffee and Conversations',에 초대받아서 제 작업에 관한 간담회를 갖습니다. 제 책에 사인해드리는 시간도 있으니 가까이 계신분들은 오셔서 함께하시면 좋겠습니다.

Last fall, while I was leading my Korea Textile Tour, my husband had harvested my precious (because I was only able to get a few plants) indigo and stored it in our garage.
When I came back home, I was so glad to see them. Even though I can't replant from last year's indigo seeds, this indigo bouquet encourages me to start over this year. I will start with seeds from my friend. Wish me luck this year!
작년 가을 제가 한국서 텍스타일 투어를 진행하는 동안 저의 겨우 몇뿌리밖에 못키운 귀하디 귀한 쪽을 걱정하고 있었지요. 다행히 제 남편이 한국으로 향하기 전에 뿌리채 뽑아서 차고안에 저장해 놓았습니다. 잊고 있었던 쪽풀을 보니 얼마나 반갑던지요. 포기하지 말라고 용기를 주는 쪽다발 부케가 되었습니다. 올해는 잘 해볼게요!

Workshops and Events in 2025
This year, I received teaching invitations from esteemed institutions that I had long aspired to attend. Without hesitation, I accepted all of these invitations. Several of these places offer comprehensive multi-day workshops.
I am particularly delighted to have the opportunity to design and deliver comprehensive classes that will provide students with a deep understanding of the subject matter.
I will be traveling to various states and cities, so I encourage you to join me during my travels if you are in the vicinity.
늘 꿈꾸고 상상만 하던 곳들에서 가르칠 기회가 온다면? 당연히 가야지요!
