Happy October!

My collaboration with Megan Nielsen's Hovea jacket kept me busy for a while. I made 4 Hovea jackets with different materials and I couldn't stop sewing. So I printed two of my jogakbo on organic cotton gauze fabric. I love how soft this material is after I wash it. And the crinkled texture is pleasing to my eyes. If you want to try and make some garments, I have some available for you on my website.

Many of you asked me to offer more Maedeub 매듭class, but I didn't have time to develop new classes this month. My sincerest apologies! I added a short how-to video on my YouTube channel for you. 가락지 매듭, the ring knot, is not too difficult to make. I hope you enjoy
watching and making it! Link in here.

Hand-Sewn Quilting Primer Series: a six week exploration with Tatter
October 14th - Saeksilnubi 3D quilt block with Youngmin Lee

Korea Textile Tour in 2022
I miss the clear blue sky in Korea during October.
The weather gets cooler and trees are slowly changing their colors.
I am planning to have tours in May 2022 and October 2022. My 2019 participants will have a priority to travel for the 2022 tours, and later this year I will open the registration to wait-list.
There is a
wait-list available, so please let me know if you are interested in future tours. If you are already on the wait-list, you will get an email when I resume the tour. Proof of vaccination will be required to participate in the tour. Thanks for being patient!
Saeksilnubi, colored thread quilting is a Korean traditional craft that uses two layers of fabrics, hanji (Korean mulberry paper) cords, and colorful threads to make quilted texture.

Repetive lines created with Bageumjil (back stitch) and Hanji cord create a geometrical pattern and raised texture.

Saeksilnibi was used to make practical objects such as small pouches to store and carry tobacco, flint stone and metal, pin cushion, glasses case, and paper sock patterns.
This technique strengthened the fabric, and protected contents from humidity.

I used this binding method to finish this piece and made it into a pouch. Traditionally this shape of pouch was used to keep family members' sock patterns.

Hand-Sewn Quilting Primer Series: a six week exploration with Tatter

The TATTER Quilting Primer series aims to demystify the act of hand sewing a quilt block through a sequence of diverse forays into block constructing. This series gathers contemporary voices and techniques to give the new sewist a set of skills and the confidence to take on any existing pattern or personal composition.

Exposure to six unique teachers over six weeks affords any sewist, seasoned or novice, the opportunity to witness varied approaches even within the same technique. The whole series is sold out but you still can sign up for some individual classes.
