DAWN, my new work is a part of the 'Blue Gold' exhibit at the Mingei Museum.

During my morning walk (as I mentioned last month, I’ve resumed my morning walks and they’ve now become a part of my routine), I noticed squirrels busily collecting acorns. The park in my neighborhood was covered with them, and the trees were already starting to change colors. Although the Bay Area still enjoys warm days, I can feel that autumn has arrived.

My new work, Dawn, is featured in the exhibit “Blue Gold: The Art and Science of Indigo” at the Mingei International Museum in San Diego, running from September 13, 2024, through March 16, 2025. I drove down to SoCal to attend the opening reception on September 13th, which was a fantastic experience. It was wonderful to see the exhibit in person and to meet the curators and fellow artists. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by to explore the fascinating world of indigo. San Diego itself is a great destination with plenty to see, so consider planning a visit to the Mingei. While there, don’t miss Rosa Chang’s interactive Indigo Shade Map. Rosa Chang is an artist, educator, and a writer, and she wrote a wonderful book on indigo titled My Indigo World.  I’m considering revisiting the exhibit when I return to California, as there was so much to see and learn.

In September, I taught three classes using my book instead of printed handouts, which was a fulfilling experience. The only challenge was that I had to read through all the instructions beforehand to make sure I taught everything exactly as written—avoiding any discrepancies was important to me.

As I’m heading to Korea to lead my textile tour, I won’t be able to process any more orders from my website for now. If you haven’t yet picked up a copy of my book, you can find it on
Bloomsbury or Amazon. If you do order from Amazon, I would greatly appreciate a rating or review. And as a thank you for your feedback, I’ll send you a wrapping bojagi—just email me your mailing address after leaving a review! I’ve already sent out a few bojagi, so if you haven’t yet provided your address, feel free to send it my way. I’ll be sending out thank-you gifts in mid-November.

Right now, I’m finishing up this newsletter while on a flight to Korea. I’ll first spend time with my parents before heading to Seoul to begin the October 2024 Korea Textile Tour. I’ll be posting photos on Instagram and Facebook as I travel with my companions. I have a long list of people interested in future tours, and I hope I’ll get the chance to travel with everyone! If you'd like to join me, please let me know. I’ll be announcing the 2025 tour dates and registration details in the December newsletter.

After the tour, I’ll participate in the
Quilt Festival in Korea (QFIK) and curate an exhibit titled Homage to Bojagi in Seoul. I’m honored to feature the works of Adam Pogue, Caitlin Parker, Miran Lee, Maryse Allard, and Sara Cook in this exhibit, along with a few of my own pieces. Stay tuned for photos!

Wishing you a wonderful October!
