'Hovea Jacket' - I collaborated with Megan Nielson Sewing Patterns on this HOVEA jacket(named after a beautiful plant native to Western Australia). She was inspired by her three children's Taekwondo dobok (uniform) to create this simple yet stylish jacket. Megan asked me to create a jacket using my jogakbo inspiration and I had so much fun creating three different Hovea jackets. You can see them all in here.
Megan also asked me to write a blog posting and it will live on September 3, 2021. Please visit her blog page to read more. I had a chance to explore with different techniques, materials, and styles. Megan and I will have a small giveaway on Instagram on September 3, 2021, and I will give my jogakbo printed cotton gauze to one lucky person. So if you are interested, check my Instagram page after September 3rd.
I put many links in this newsletter and I hope you enjoy discovering details!

During August, I enjoyed a very relaxing time. I was able to spend a few days near the Pacific coast, strolled the garden at Filoli, and tackled fun projects that I put aside due to my busy work schedule. I also revisited the Fiber Arts X in Sebastopol Center for Arts and enjoyed my own gallery tour day.
Exhibition dates: July 31 - September 12, 2021
You still have time to visit if you are in the San Francisco Bay Area!
Chuseok, 추석, is the harvest festival celebrated on the fifteenth day (the full moon day) of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. This year's Chuseok is September 21st. People visit their hometown to see families, prepare foods with newly harvested crops, and pay respect to their ancestors by offering Charye (차례).
Songpyeon, the most significant food that represents Chuseok, is prepared with rice flour that is kneaded into a small ball size, and then filled with sesame seeds (my favorite flavor), beans, red beans, chestnuts, or other nutritious ingredients. When steaming the songpyeon, the rice cakes are layered with pine needles to add the delightful fragrance of the pine tree. It is an old tradition for the whole family to gather together to make songpyeon, on the eve of Chuseok. Happy Chuseok!

Korea Textile Tour in 2022
I diligently check Korea's travel restrictions every week. Still, visitors to Korea are subject to a 14-day mandatory quarantine. I am planning to have tours in May 2022 and October 2022. My 2019 participants will have a priority to travel for the 2022 tours, and later this year I will open the registration to wait-list.
There is a wait-list available, so please let me know if you are interested in future tours. If you are already on the wait-list, you will get an email when I resume the tour. Thanks for being patient!
