Many numbers of bottari – this is how I pack for my teaching trip!
I am back home! (again and again!) 다녀왔습니다~
What a busy month! I packed and unpacked for these two wonderful teaching trips and I am finally home. The first trip was to Austin, TX, to teach a bojagi workshop at the Austin School of Fiber Arts. I met lovely people there, including the director of this school, Lynn Brotman. We spent 3 full days exploring and learning about bojagi, jogakbo, ssamsol technique, and Korean textile tradition. I came back home with fond memories.
Then I packed again and headed to Atlanta, GA, to attend QuiltCon23. The moment of serendipity started on the airplane. A dear friend, fellow QuiltCon teacher Sujata Shah, was seated right next to me! She and I met years ago when we both gave a talk at the East Bay Modern Quilters meeting. We live in the same town and we talked about meeting but our busy life and schedule didn't allow us to meet until last week. We talked and talked together until the plane arrived at the Atlanta airport. And the next 5 days were a whirlwind! Giving a lecture at the big conference hall, meeting many people, teaching 4 classes, meeting more people, and having emotional moments with kindred souls! Thank you all for saying hi to me at QuiltCon! It was wonderful to see and meet you in person.
Seeing many wonderful quilts was another joy and I was easily overwhelmed by the massive scale of this event. I was so busy taking memos and photos before I forget all the impressions and inspiration. I will need some quiet time to sit and think about these soon.
I have one more trip to take in March and this time I am going to Stuart, FL, to teach a 3-day bojagi workshop at the AYA Fiber Studio. I don't go often to the east side of this country so if you are near Stuart, FL, this can be your chance to learn about bojagi or meet me without traveling too far. I hope to see you there. Before and after this teaching trip, I have a number of virtual classes and talks planned, too. Yes, I planned many events because I love to share my passion with you!
