Strokes and Stitches will be exhibited at the De Young Open 2023
Summer traveling with bojagi is still going on
I started my August with creative souls at the Slow Stitching Retreat organized by Samantha Hoyt's A Gathering of Stitches. This was my second year and I knew what to expect, from the daily schedule to teaching classes. I was so excited to travel there, and I was able to find joy in meeting and befriending new people. Last year I missed the chance to go to the local ice cream place, so I was determined to go this year. Thanks to Mary Anne, Jamie, Sujata, and Kim for making this happen! Sujata Shah and Kim Eichler-Messmer were also instructors, and it was wonderful to get to know each other. Yes, teachers make friends, too!
After I came back home from this retreat, I packed again and headed for Saint Louis, MO, to lead the 'Community Bojagi project' with Gateway Korea Foundation and Saint Louis Art Museum. Oh, how I enjoyed my stay in this beautiful city with a rich history and culture! I met great people, and the Community bojagi project started with lots of museum visitors and volunteers. If you are in this area, please come and meet me and participate in this project. You can come to the museum on Sundays and I will be there on 9/3. The finished bojagi will be unveiled on 9/24!
The exhibit 'Bojagi Journey 2023' was curated by Patti King and is now showing at the Pacific Northwest Quilts & Fiber Museum in La Conner, WA.
My piece, 'Sheer and Layer,' is a part of this exhibit. If you are in the Pacific Northwest area, please come and visit the exhibit. I will be there on September 14 to see the exhibit and meet other artists.
Do you remember the first De Young Open in 2020? I was honored to be a part of this salon-style exhibit with my work, 'Remnants of Memory.' This year, the De Young Open is coming back and I am thrilled to show my recent work, 'Strokes and Stitches,' as a part of the exhibit. The exhibit opens on September 30, 2023-January 7, 2024
After I took the Kakishibu workshop from Taka and Tomo Ishii of @awonoyoh, I practiced in my backyard with one of my garments and my used coffee filters. I was fascinated by how the orange-brown persimmon-dyed fabric turned into a mystic gray.
White linen jogakbo vest turned out like this and I have a new vest to wear!
I've been a big fan of FEEDBACK FRIDAY of Botanical Colors and I will be presenting on September 8 at 9 am PDT. You can RSVP here. I hope to see you there!
And I just found this in my mailbox! The fall issue of Threads magazine includes my how-to article about bojagi and ssamsol. So excited to share my passion with people who love to sew!
This month I am re-reading this fascinating book.
